Mandatory Efficiency Requirements For Low Voltage Electric Motors
From the 1st of January 2015 the EU MEPS made IE3 compulsory for single speed three-phase induction motors in the range 7.5 to 375 kW. IE2 rated motors can still be sold but they need to be used with a Variable Speed Drive (VSD). The same measures will apply to Motors ranging 0.75 to 7.5 kW from 2017.
What is the difference between IE2 and IE3 ratings?
Mandatory Efficiency Requirements For Low Voltage Electric Motors
In the diagram above you can easily see the efficiency difference between IE2 and IE3 rated motors. We have also included the efficiency levels of IE4. The revolutionary ABB SynRM motor meets IE4 efficiency criteria.
We have been promoting the energy saving benefits of utilising ABB Variable Speed Drives for almost 21 years, it is reassuring to see the EU taking notice. Coupled with our own government’s energy saving incentives it is about time British industry were educated on what has historically been the energy saving sectors best kept secret. Now we just need for everyone to catch up with the benefits of the IE4 SynRm Motor and Drive package.
