ABB Variable Speed Drive Webinars
We are pleased to announce that following the success of the ABB variable speed drive webinars in 2020, ABB and IDS are once again teaming up to provide these valuable online learnings.
The experts at ABB have created these webinars with the intention of sharing knowledge and best practices. The webinar topics run from an introduction to variable speed drives, through to the latest digital technology and specific topics like PID, harmonics, automation and PLC.
Each webinar is free to attend, however, booking in advance is required. The dates and times for each course are displayed below, so you can start to plan which webinars you would like to attend.
ABB Variable Speed Drive Webinars

Smart Sensor
Host: Steve Hughes, UK Digital Lead-Motion
Wednesday 24th March 2021, 10 am GMT start, duration approximately 1 hour.
Title: Maximising productivity – Condition Monitoring of Rotating Equipment and Drives – The journey from reactive to proactive maintenance – Part 1 (Rotating Equipment)
Session 1 focuses on the remote condition monitoring of induction motors, mounted bearings and pumps utilising the ABB Smart Sensor portfolio of products. Session 2 will be on 21st April 2021.
Synopsis: The cost of unplanned machine failures can be far more than just lost production output, it can result in additional costs associated with waste materials, labour, emergency spare part supply and even damage to reputation.
Drives and motors remote condition monitoring helps to monitor critical health and operating parameters of mechanical powertrain components in real-time. This means users are given advanced notification of potential problems, so maintenance can be planned and undertaken before a failure actually occurs.
ABB’s Digital Powertrain technology not only allows manufacturers to predict when maintenance is required, but it gives them a broad picture of the unique influence components have on one another allowing them to improve the performance, reliability and efficiency of their powertrain which in turn improves system optimization.
